What sensitive and personal information is being sent off shore?

After a sustained public campaign by the FSU and its members Westpac has abandoned plans to send 482 jobs from its Transactions and Unsecured Loans Operation (TULO) from Concord to Bangalore.

The FSU has welcomed this decision. Read media release


However, Westpac subsidiary BT Westpac/BT has sent 77 jobs in Superannuation Administration from Adelaide to Bangalore

Functions include:

  • Processing Superannuation Accounts including applications to commence, reconciling transactions and payments, processing amendments.

Customer details sent offshore include:

  • personal details,
  • earnings and payments,
  • employer details.

What the bank said in response to FSU at their most recent AGM

  • Will not rule out further Offshoring
  • Does not support legislation giving consumers a ‘right to know’ if their details are being accessed or processed offshore.
  • May participate in an industry dialogue on the future of skills and employment in finance depending on the scope and purpose of the discussion.
